Thalidomide, the infamous drug that made teratogenecity famous, is in news again. It was banned in 1962 when serious teratogenic effects were demonstrated with the use of this drug in pregnant women.
Now it has a new indication - Multiple myeloma.
Though it has not been proven to be a 'very effective' drug, it has been approved for use in this condition, by the FDA. It is to be used in combination with dexamethasone. It should be noted here, however that Thalidomide was being used for this condition as an off-label indication, now it has become 'official'.
