The first signs of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia among older people may be physical rather than mental, according to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

The study by Larson and colleagues at the University of Washington included 2,288 older people followed for six years. Slowing of the gait and poor balance were more common in people later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or some other dementia. Poor handgrip seemed to be associated with later dementia in people who already showed early signs of mild cognitive decline.

Time to take a new look at Alzheimers. Some studies also show that exercise can delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

Education is not to reform students or amuse them or to make them expert professionals. It is to unsettle their minds, widen their horizons, inflame their intellects, teach them to think straight, if possible.
