A user driven health care learning model.

Summary Points:

  1. In E-learning for E-health “There is no doctor or patient, only different categories of medical learners”. Although a real life physician often remains a pillar of strength for any individual patient the patient may still need to view his problem from multiple angles that his physician may not be expected to be even aware of.

  2. The wisdom or expertise of a real world physician may be a manifestation of accumulated information input signals that have stabilized/optimized over the years. It may not be feasible for an expert physician to have an optimal solution to each and every individual patient need. At best s/he can provide an answer based on averaged patient outcome data.

  3. Average patient data, which occupies most of our present day information bases, is often unable to satisfy individual patient needs.

  4. There is no proof of the present top down subspecialty approach in medicine   resulting in better outcome or patient satisfaction.

  5. Evidence based guidelines (that keep evolving with continued research) may continue to function as a good parameter at present to judge the validity of the information collected by the individual user driven by his needs.

  6. Evidence based health care has brought validity to modern medicine, yet is limited by its inability to provide the whole picture. Every individual patient and health professional has multidimensional information needs that require fulfillment.

  7. A web based user driven learning solution similar to a complex adaptive system may be a stepping-stone to address the present problem of information oversupply in medicine that mostly remains unutilized, as it doesn’t match the needs of the individual patient/health professional user.
